This is dedicated in the memory of Earl L. Webb. I love you, and no one will ever take your place in my heart.
It is difficult for me to write this article because I have lost, and if you have ever lost, you know how it feels to be haunted by memories. Memories are gateways to healing. However, the pain of the lost can engulf your every essence, if you let it.
Everyone has a ghost, whether that ghost is in the “here and now”, or in the “present” and we cannot allow our emotions to play hide and seek with our hearts. The fact of it all is that, in every misfortune or loss we are often afraid to confront our ghost, acknowledge and release it. We bury it in our emotional closets, never learning from that person, but dwelling on what is. What is, does not grant you the delight of knowing what was.

Have you ever had a lover whose memory was so lodged into your thoughts that you can capture the essence of them by a scent? When we face loss, we allow the unresolved of unspoken words or actions to preoccupy our psyche, and that leads us to a land of regret, which allows a haunting to become a possession. Never regret a lost one… celebrate and learn from their love, and their wisdom. Everyone was placed on this earth for a purpose. Although we may never understand why a bereavement of a person or a relationship could transpire so abruptly, we should be wise enough to understand that it is God’s plan, for us to both know and learn from that individual.
It is safe to allow your heart to be haunted, but promote your spirit to be awakened. Remember that the memories that frequent you, encourages strength and wisdom. So if you are haunted by loss, do not allow this event to hinder your blessings of knowing that person. Love them and delight yourself in their essence, you may learn something about you.
